Academy prospects return

Loan deals cut short on two; discussions on third

Utd have cut short the loan spells of two of their academy players who will now return to the club. It is believed a lack of playing time is the reason for doing so.

Plymouth-born Sonny Aljofree featured heavily in the under-18’s and graduated to captain the under-21 side. He was part of the squad who won the FA Youth Cup in 2022 alongside Alejandro Garnacho and Kobee Mainoo. He had hoped to build on his successful loan period last season with Accrington Stanley where he made over 20 appearances. He had made 10 starts this season at Notts County, but not featured since the end of September.

England youth international Elyh Harrison is also returning to Old Trafford. The former winner of the Denzil Haroun reserve team player of the year had made his first inroads into the under-21 side and featured on the bench for the first team last season. This was preceded by a spell on loan to Stevenage and Chester where he made nearly 20 appearances. Having started as first choice keeper, he found it difficult to feature regularly in recent weeks at Shrewsbury.

Negotiations remain over the immediate future of Habeeb Ogunneye. The under-18 right-back had risen to the point of featuring in the matchday squads in some of the FA Cup winning campaign of 2024 including the Semi-Final. has made over 20 appearances for League Two strugglers Newport County. He has not featured since early December though.
