Darlow joins Man United

Goalkeeper leaves whites to join the reds

Manchester United have confirmed the signing of Karl Darlow from Premier League rivals Leeds United.

The Welsh international goalkeeper joins on a free transfer after rejecting the offer of a new contract from the Yorkshire side. He will be expected to provide competition to Senne Lammens.

The 35-year-old started his career at Nottingham Forest where he spent most of his early career on loan to the likes of Newport County and Walsall. He moved to Newcastle in 2015 where he helped them regain their place in the Premier League. He found playing time limited due to competition and moved to Leeds in 2023. He helped them to promotion in 2025 and established himself as the first choice last season. He played 22 times as Leeds managed to avoid relegation. He kept five clean sheets.

He spoke on the signing:

“I am extremely proud to sign for Manchester United. I’m joining an excellent group of goalkeepers and I’m really looking forward to all pushing each other to ensure that we maintain the highest standards, which this club demands.

“This is a really special opportunity; everyone can see what an exciting time it is for the club and I cannot wait to play my part in supporting my team-mates and helping to drive the group forwards.”

Director of Football, Jason Wilcox, added: “Karl has proven his ability to perform at the highest level, his work ethic and determined personality make him a really strong addition to our squad.

“We are delighted to add a player of his quality and experience to our excellent goalkeeping group.”

He has signed a deal, subject to registration, until 2028. It has the option of a further year. It is likely to increase speculation on the future of Altay Bayinder.
