Williams departs United

Attacker joins Posh on permanent deal

Manchester United have announced the departure of Ethan Williams to League One side Peterborough.

The fee has not been declared officially. Peterborough described it as being ‘significant’. It has been reported that the deal also included a substantial sell-on clause and a buy-back option.

Ethan joined United in 2019 from Rochdale’s academy and quickly impressed. He played a crucial role in the success of the under-18 side in 2023-24, scoring seven times in 11 games. The young reds secured the northern and national titles that season, along with the Premier League Cup.

He went out on loan to Cheltenham Town in January 2025 in order to gain experience in first team football. He scored twice and provided two assists in his spell there. Last season he moved north to Falkirk in the SPL. He made 23 appearances with just the one goal. He struggled for game time in the second half of the season.

Williams had been on United’s tour of Norway and Sweden. He scored his last goal for the club in the closing stages of the Rosenborg game.

He spoke to the club website on the news: “I have enjoyed my time at United and it’s always tough to leave a place like that, but there comes a time in your career where you have to make tough decisions to develop yourself and Peterborough is renowned for helping younger players.”

He has signed a deal until 2028. He is hoping to be included in their squad against Bradford City.

We wish him all the very best
