Episode 254: The Good, the bad, and the ugly

After an absence due to illness, the lads are back talking about all things in the world of Utd. And it has been a really up and down series of games in the meantime.

We somehow managed to hand ten men Everton only their second win at Old Trafford in the Premier League era. Kieran-Dewsbury Hall scoring in the first half and we were unable to hit a barn door for the remainder of the game. A match in which no-one in a red shirt deserved anything above a four.

We feared the worse ahead of a trip down to London to take on a confident Crystal Palace. Remarkably we turned around a half time deficit to win with a rare goal from Joshua Zirkzee and a great free kick from Mason Mount. Up yet again.

But another home game and more dropped points. Despite us leading going into the final ten minutes against a relegation threatened West Ham, we contrived to throw away a chance to move closer to the top four. Brian’s favourite full back scored but our defending was lamentable to allow a tap in from a corner.

Finally we travelled to bottom placed Wolves and came away with a handy win. We lead and missed a few chances to extend the lead before the home side equalised just before the break. A strong showing from Mason Mount and Bruno Fernandes saw us pull clear in the end.

Again some of the substitutions in some of these games have been brought into question. In many, the impetus and momentum has been lost with the introduction of defensive players and surrendering possession. Fans should hope to expect more but is it more down to the available options?

We also are still crying out for more involvement of our academy players. If they are good enough to make the bench, surely they should be good enough for minutes on the pitch? Especially against a ten men Everton or a beaten Wolves side.

One face in the crowd at Molineaux caused a lot of consternation. Darts player Luke Littler managed to source tickets for the away end at the last minute. And standing next to the head of fan engagement. It was a PR disaster for the club given their persecution of season ticket holders from transferring tickets to others and having tickets revoked. But celebrities do not face the same issues.

Its a busy period ahead over the Christmas period and games are coming thick and fast. It stretches the squad even more with players departing with AFCON duty for their international sides. Bournemouth lie ahead on yet another Monday night match and Ruben must approach the game with a positive mindset.

Up the tatically stubborn reds!
