Leeds away, Amorim sacked!: Episode 257

Another normal week at Old Trafford…

Brian, Dale, and John were all on the call to discuss a dramatic couple of days at the football club. There was a certain amount of apprehension amongst reds fans prior to the Elland Road encounter over whether the home side were going to break their streak against us. This was alluded to on the previous episode.

The team rolled their sleeves up and dug out a well earned result though. The likes Martinez gave the defense a solidity that few at the club can provide, of Casemiro and Ugarte broke up a lot of attacks and played smart passes when danger presented itself, and Cunha was a constant threat up front. Even if he was guilty of overplaying it at times. It was his goal in the second-half that levelled matters up and he was unlucky with a disallowed chance early on.

It was the chances missed by Benjamin Sesko that probably prevented us from coming away with a very welcome victory. His goal drought has now gone to 13 games. Given the shortage of players we have at the moment, the opportunity to take him out of the side just isn’t there.

But it was the post-match interview with Ruben that proved to be the main talking point. Amorim seemed to be on edge and he pressed home the point that he was the manager and not just the coach. Allusions to those above him needing to do better made many sit up and take note. Not too manay of us would have expected that it would have led to his dismissal after just 14 months in charge. It appears that a breakdown in relationships, rather than results, are behind it all.

It does seem to have been a situation that was bubbling under for a while. Tactics, his style of play, and excluding certain players had caused him to lose credit with a lot of fans. The lads debate who is to blame for it and whether it was a decision that was right or not.

Whatever about it, INEOS are not particularly coming out too well out of the situation having now sacked two managers in the space of two years. All of the hierarchy involved need to ask questions of themselves.

Finally, there is a look towards the next away game at Burnley before the FA Cup encounter with Brighton.

Up the mangerless reds!
