A look at how the on-loan reds have been getting on
The leagues across Britain and Europe are up and running. Here is a look at
Europe
Celta Vigo lost their opening game at home to Osasuna. The turning point in the game came in the 51st minute. With the home side one nil up, Marcos Alonso received a straight red card. The visitors profited with two goals in the next ten minutes. Altay Bayinder was on the bench.
He was also on the bench as they lost their second home game in a row. Athletic Club won 2-0 at Estadio Abanca-Balaidos. Two goals in the space of two first half minutes proved to be the difference. It means they have just one point from their opening three games.
Andre Onana‘s Trabzonspor had a night to forget as they exited the Europa League. Already one down from the home leg, they were brushed aside 4-0 by Ferencvaros in Hungary. Having two red cards did not help matters. They now fall into the Conference League.
It was further disappointment in the league on Monday. Despite having gone in front early on, they went on to lose 2-1 to Amed. It already puts them behind their main rivals.
Lausanne lost their opening home league game in a rollercoaster game against Zurich. Lausanne went in front, found themselves behind, drew level and finally went behind again. Sekou Kone played the full 90 minutes. He was unable to create any chances, but did have a strong passing record.
EFL
Ethan Wheatley made his Lincoln debut in their 4-1 Carabao Cup win away to Blackpool. He came on for the final five minutes. He did not manage to have an impact in that time though. He remained on the bench as the Imps claimed their first league win of the season. They beat fellow promoted side Bolton Wanderers away.
Scottish League
Jacob Devaney was unable to feature for Hibernian as his loan deal was not completed in time. His new club had a disaster at home to Gent in the Europa Conference League qualifiers. Leading 2-1 going into the final five minutes, they conceded twice to exit the competition.
He came right into the side for their game at Dundee. He put in an assured performance as they comfortably claimed all three points. His passing was in the high 90’s along with creating two chances.
Greenock Morton finally claimed their first point of the season. A goal in the second-half saw them come away with the result at Ayr United. It keeps them second bottom of the table, but at least it is still something to work with. Elyh Harrison will be disappointed to have not claimed a clean sheet in the game. the goal he conceded came from a penalty.
Non League
Southport came back down to earth as they were heavily defeated by Scarborough. The home side raced into a three-nil lead by half-time, and eased to the win. Honor Soloman did not cover himself in glory unfortunately. He was guilty of getting out-muscled on set-pieces and being slow to get down for some goals. It was a harsh lesson about football at this level.
They also lost at home to Hereford on Monday. A controversial penalty award proved to be the difference in a poor quality game. Soloman will be frustrated to not claim a clean sheet.
