Onana joins Trabszonspor

Goalkeeper leaves on loan to Turkish side

Manchester United have announced that Andre Onana has joined Turkish club Trabszonspor. Having spent most of last season on loan there, he rejoins the club again on loan for the 2026-27 season.

The goalkeeper will be joining on a loan fee believed to be around £1.3M. It has not been indicated on whether there is an obligation to buy included with it. They will cover all of his wages for the duration of the deal though.

He played 34 times in Super Lig last season keeping six clean sheets as Trapzonspor finished third. He also helped them win the Turkish Cup Final.

The Cameroon international joined the Barcelona underage structure in 2010, but left having never played a first-team game. He joined Ajax Amsterdam where he won three Eredivise titles, along with reaching the 2016-17 Europa League Final in a losing effort to us. He joined Inter Milan in 2022 where he helped the Milanese giants to the Champions League Final that season.

He signed for United ahead of the 2023-24 season on a deal worth up for £50M. Unfortunately his time with us was marked by glaring inconsistencies. Capable of producing some strong displays, but also error-filled and confidence sapping ones also. The club won the FA Cup in his first season but his second was hugely disappointing. The club lost the Europa League Final to miss out on European football. His last game saw the club exit the League Club in embarrassing fashion to Grimsby Town.

He is contracted to Man Utd until the end of the 2027-28 season. The club have yet to decide on their goalkeepers for the coming season with doubts over the future of Altay Bayinder and Radek Vitek.
