Striker joins League Two side on loan
Manchester United have announced the departure of James Scanlon on a loan move to Swindon Town. He joins the League Two outfit until the end of the season. He had been tracked by a number of teams across Europe but his coaches felt that it was better for him to gain experience with an English league team.
The 20-year-old came through the youth academy at Derby County before joining us in 2021. He broke into the under-18 side towards the end of the 2023/24 season. The following season was a breakout one for him. He began playing with the under-21’s, was featured in the UEFA Youth League campaign and even started training with the first team on occasions.
He signed his first professional contract with the club at the end of that season and was part of the touring squad in the US that summer. Continued impressive form with the underage sides led to his first callup to the senior matchday squad as we took on Real Sociedad.
Along with impressive showing for the underage sides, he also became a senior international representing Gibraltar. He has scored twice in ten appearances for them in The Nations League and World Cup qualifying games.
Swindon currently lie sixth in League Two and just outside the automatic promotion spots.
Best of luck for the rest of the season!
