Devaney joins St. Mirren

Young midfielder joins SPL side on loan

Manchester United have announced the departure of Jacob Devaney to Scottish club, St. Mirren, until the end of the season.

The 18-year-old midfielder has been with the centre of excellence since the age of six after being scouted near his locality of Barnsley. He broke through into the under-18’s at the age of 15 quickly pin-pointed as one for the future. A stress fracture that side-lined him for a year threatened to stall his early career. He was able to recover from it though.

He was named as Manchester United Youth Scholar of the year in 2025. This led to him being involved in the first team squad that travelled for the pre-season. He has progressed to the under-21 side this season and featured heavily in the EFL Trophy. He has also won six caps for Republic of Ireland under-21’s.

He spoke to the club website on the news: “It’s a great opportunity for me to come here, do well and try to help the lads finish the season strong.”

“As soon as the offer came up it was something that me and my family looked at, and thought was a great opportunity. I see it as a big step in my career to go and prove myself. Everything the manager said was really positive and that’s why I’m here today.”

St. Mirren manager, Stephen Robinson, added: “He’s a really highly thought of young player at Manchester United so we’re looking forward to getting him involved.”

“He’s been playing U21 football for Manchester United on a regular basis and with our injuries he could get thrown in at the deep end, but we believe he’s got a mentality to handle that and is someone we feel can make an impact.”

‘The Buddies’ currently lie eight in the table.

All the best of luck for the rest of the season!
