United captain achieves treble award for record season.
Bruno Fernandes has been voted as Premier League Player of the Year for the season 2025/26 by PFA (Professional Footballers Association). In a field compromising of Declan Rice, Gabriel and David Raya of Arsenal, Erling Haaland and Antoine Semenyo of Manchester City, Igor Thiago of Brentford and Morgan Gibbs-White of Nottingham, the Portugal play-maker received the most votes. Declan Rice finished just behind him.
It is a just reward for a season where his individual stats have been remarkable. He is the first player in the league’s history to reach 20 assists in a season since Kevin De Bruyne in 2019/20. That side was a well drilled unit, whereas our team struggled for proper balance and consistency throughout. Fernandes also started the season a deeper lying role where his best attributes were not demonstrated. Indeed, his first assist came in the win at Anfield in the middle of October.
The change by Carrick to bring him back into a 10 position worked wonders. He was at the heart of the majority of the positive moments that we had in the second half of the campaign. His movement and through-balls helped kick-start the career of Benjamin Sesko whilst his corner routines enabled Casemiro reach his highest tally of goals. The amount of chances (132) he created exceeds anyone else in the league also. We could have been closer to Arsenal and Man City if more had been finished off.
He also managed to chip in with eight goals of his own. Whether that was penalties, free kicks or back-post tap-ins, he contributed important goals himself.
The award is the third individual honour he has received in recent weeks. He also won F.W.A (Football Writers Association) and Sir Matt Busby Award from his team-mates. He is the first player for Manchester United to win since Nemenja Vidic in 2011.
Kobbie Mainoo had been nominated for Young Player of the Year. He lost out to Nico O’ Reilly unfortunately.
