Ederson Deal Over

Midfielder signs new contract at Italian club

Atalanta have announced the contract extension of Ederson. This ends the anticipated move for him to Old Trafford.

It had been announced at the start of June that both clubs had agreed a fee for the central midfielder. The medical and official signing had been delayed due to his late call-up to the Brazilian World Cup squad. All parties were confident that it could be concluded upon their end in the tournament.

Their involvement in the competition came to an end with the defeat to Norway in the last-16. Preliminary tests took place in the US where the player was still in the country. Areas of concern arose in the initial tests and it was decided to fly him to Manchester to conduct more extensive tests. Specialists were involved at this point and it led to the club backing out of the deal. The issue in question was not publicly stated.

The Bergamo club have disputed the claims of the medical stating that he was 100% fit. There was rumours that the deal could have been restored later in the summer with different terms. That is concluded now though. Manchester United have moved in the meantime to sign both Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans. It is possible another signing in this area might take place.
