Fee agreed for Brazilian midfielder
Manchester United have reached agreement over the transfer of Ederson to the Premier League. He will be set to become Michael Carrick’s first signing of the summer.
The 26-year-old defensive midfielder has joined on a fee of around €40M.
He started his career with Desportivo Brasil before spells with Cruzeiro, Corinthians and Fortaleza. He was a rare bright spot for the former as they were relegated in 2019. He also helped the latter reach the Copa Libertadores in 2022. His form attracted attention from European clubs and joined Italian club Salernitana in January 2022.
He was not long there before Atalanta came calling. He helped them to success in the 2024 Europa League Final against the previously undefeated Bayer Leverkusen.
The season just gone was one where they just fell short. Inconsistency saw them out of the Champions League places and lose in the Italian Cup Semi-Final on penalties. They did reach the last-16 of the Champions League, but lost heavily to Bayern Munich.
He played over 40 times, netting three goals and providing two assists.
It is expected that the reds will be looking to strengthen in midfield with the announced departure of Casemiro and doubts over the future of Manuel Ugarte. His hard-running and defensive nous will be needed as United face an increased amount of games. The Brazilian, who missed out on the World Cup, could be the first of a few new faces for next season.
The deal will be completed on the passing of a medical and is expected to be done in July. He will be joining on a four year deal with the option of an extra year.
