Episode 259: Derby Day Delirium

All aboard the Old Trafford roundabout once more

Both Brian and John travelled over in hope rather than expectation for the Manchester Derby. They got a sense of some of the feelings of reds fans prior to the game and the nerves involved. Amazingly even John predicted a win! The sense of joy after the game was a complete contrast though as we completely outplayed the bitter neighbours.

They were joined on the pod by Dale as they reflected on a most enjoyable 90 plus minutes. Given the drama we have experienced over the last few weeks/months/years, it is a pleasure to have an upbeat podcast! Too often good starts have been let slip and unable to build upon. Too often players have not risen to the occasion and underperformed. And too often fans have spent a small fortune travelling to these game to come come frustrated and disappointed.

A lot of the talk circulated around Carrick’s match selection. Bryan Mbeumo started up front and Kobee Mainoo started in midfield. It could have back-fired, but it worked to a tee. A breakaway goal that brought back memories of Rooney and Ronaldo put us in front. A positive change made to bring on Cunha brought about the second as the live wire Dorgu doubled the lead. It was the pace and energy that summed up the idea of the ‘United DNA’.

Which brings some comments made from former Utd players all the more curious. Nicky Butt, Paul Scholes and more have all been loud in their personal attacks on current players and management. Comments have been made that are below the belt and which now have not been called out enough. They are either unaware of the power of their words, forgetful of how much Ferguson and fans protected them from negative statements or just focused on making money out of them club doing badly.

Finally the lads look towards this weekend’s trip to league leaders Arsenal. Carrick is at the wheel!
