John Fitz is our man on the ground as he provided a few words from around Old Trafford pre and post-match. Its never easy getting over to these Monday night games, and the atmosphere can be a bit off at times. Luckily, we got the job done. Fair play to him for the good work.
Dale was joined on the mic by Tony Evans, former editor of The Times. As a staunch Liverpool supporter, he was here to look towards the game at the weekend.
He started off by discussing the balance between being a fan and being able to criticise the team and club when needed. Being passionate about the game helps drive a lot of us to do what we do and its important to care about that. Despite being blacklisted by the club in question. We all know that it is necessary to hold the club to reproach. We would like to imagine this site is capable of doing that too.
The poor defence of Liverpool’s title this season has surprised a lot. The death of Diogo Jota, poor recruitment, and a squad who are pushing on age wise. A certain degree of arrogance and complacency also comes into the equation. This has placed Arne Slot under severe pressure from a section of the fans. Evans believes that he deserves some time but needs to drastically improve next season.
Liverpool fans have felt the pinch in relation to ticket prices. This is an issue that has rankled Utd fans, certainly over the past few years. Accusations of pricing traditional support bases out of grounds has levelled at the owners of both clubs. It has certainly contributed to a dilution of the atmosphere at both stadiums.
Of course there is no love lost when it comes to the matchday experience between the two sets of fans. Evans winces when he recalls some of the scraps that took place in years gone by. An FA Cup Semi-Final in 1985 has gone down in notoriety.
The issue of Manchester City’s charges rears its head. Evans believes that the FA have made a mess of the whole procedure by letting them drag the process on for so long. By allowing the team to keep winning trophies, it has made a mockery of the whole situation.
Finally, both Dale and Tony give their predictions for the encounter on Sunday. It has been a while since we did the double over them. Fingers crossed.
