Episode 277: Michael Carrick under pressure after poor start

Here we go again

It been a disappointing few weeks in the Red Devils camp. Brian, John and Dale were on hand again to cast a look back over recent developments.

Fitzy provided us with sound bites from the opening Champions League game at home. It was a cruel twist of fate that saw us play a team from the back of beyond on a Thursday night. As if we didn’t have enough of that already in the Europa League. Sabah would have been the ideal opponents for many. The reds delivered the goods in an impressive attacking display to win comfortably.

Brian and Dale were the men on the ground for the Manchester derby a few days later. It was a hugely disappointing afternoon overall. Despite the visitors being down to ten men early on, they managed to snatch a win regardless. The goal in question came in controversial fashion due to a botched offside call. We did not do enough on our side to earn the win though.

Bad went to worse a couple of days later. A two-nil start at home to Brighton was thrown away to allow the away side claim passage to the fourth round. It was yet another early cup exit and in meek fashion too. Few emerged with any credit other than Shea Lacey with a debut goal.

It seemed that we were facing three defeats in a row in a week at Fulham. On a ground we have a strong record at, we trailed due to a terrible own goal from Lisandro Martinez. Matheus Cunha popped up with a late equaliser to save some of the blushes. It was still a poor performance again though.

Away from the lacklustre results, fans are still being caught in the crossfire regarding the ticketing issues. The club have relented on some of their measures, but are still making life difficult for many match-going supporters. Shabby from the 1958 group spoke ahead of protests before the derby game. He is naturally angry at the club for the disinterest shown in actions towards loyal fans.

Fan anger at protest

The lads are naturally frustrated given all of that. The Haaland ‘goal’ proved to be an understandable stickling point given the fine margins in these games. The question of midfield balance and full back options still rears its ugly head. Whether Rashford deserves his current starting place is another bone of contention.

We can but hope of better after the break. UTFR!
