Loan Watch: 20/04/26

The league seasons across Europe are coming towards a conclusion. Titles, European qualification, promotion and relegation are all still to be decided. The loan players from Manchester United still have a part to play in that. Here is an update on how they got on in the past week.

Europe

Here is where some of the higher profile stars that are seeking paths elsewhere.

It was a tough evening for Marcus Rashford on Tuesday. Despite winning 2-1 on the night in the Spanish capital, they exited the Champions League. He came on for the last 22 minutes but was unable to have a significant impact on the result. He failed to have any efforts on goal or target in that time. He has been criticised in circles regarding his effort. Interest has also reportedly cooled in his signing also.

Rasmus Hojlund’s Napoli saw their bid to extend their lead over AC Milan halted as they lost 2-0 to mid-table Lazio. He had three efforts in the game but none of them on target.

Andre Onana’s Trapzonspor side missed their chance of drawing level in second. They conceded a last minute equaliser at home to Istanbul Basaksehir.

Lausanne were not in action this week.

Premier League

Jadon Sancho started on the bench for Aston Villa’s win at home to Bologna on Thursday. This puts them into Europa League Semi-Finals against Nottingham Forest. He came on for the last 16 minutes but did not have much of an impact. His impact on Villa’s encounter with Sunderland on Sunday was almost hugely damaging. He twice gave the ball away to allow the visitors draw level. This was despite having only come on in the 80th minute. He was indebted to Tammy Abraham’s last minute goal to keep them in fourth.

SPL

Jacob Devaney played the full game as St. Mirren lost to Glasgow Celtic in the Scottish Cup Semi-Final. It was desperately unlucky on the side who won the League Cup against the same side. They levelled in the final minute of normal time but were blown away in extra-time. The young midfielder did himself no harm though with yet another solid display. His passing percentages were in the high 80’s and helped the side get back into the game.

Ethan Williams did not feature in Falkirk’s Semi-Final defeat on Saturday. They lost 4-2 on penalties to First Division Dunfermline.

EFL

Harry Amass remains out injured at Norwich City. He has returned to Old Trafford for checks on his hamstring damage.

Radek Vitek’s Bristol City collapsed in the second-half of their loss to Norwich City. Ahead within two minutes, they could not deal with their in-form visitors. He saw one effort scored after his initial save while another deflected past him. Their form have deserted them after Christmas and must invest to stand any chance next season.

Toby Collyer was left out of the matchday squad as Hull City drew with Birmingham City. An equaliser 12 minutes from time leaves them sweating over their play-off spot. They have just one win in six.

Ethan Wheatley was absent as Bradford City conceded a last minute equaliser to Barnsley. The home side had gone in front after two minutes but had gone down to ten players. Automatic promotion is now out of question after Cardiff and Lincoln both secured their spots. They must aim for the play-offs now.

Rotherham United’s relegation was officially confirmed on Tuesday. It is the first time they have played at the fourth level since 2012/13. Gabriele Biancheri and Dan Gore both started in their 3-0 loss to Wigan Athletic. Neither player was impressed much on the game. They were able to bounce back on Saturday though. Gore assisted the opener for Harry Gray in a 2-0 win at Leyton Orient. It keeps the home side in danger of relegation themselves.

James Scanlon started on the bench as Swindon took on Accrington Stanley. Despite dominating the game, a goal in the first and final minute by the visitors saw them come away with a 2-2 draw. He did create one opportunity but had no shot on target.

Ethan Ennis played the full game as Fleetwood drew at home to play-off hopefuls Chesterfield. He set up an opportunity that resulted in two shots being cleared off the line and had an effort saved himself.
