Loan Watch: 23/03/26

The league seasons across Europe are coming towards a conclusion. Titles, European qualification, promotion and relegation are all still to be decided. The loan players from Manchester United still have a part to play in that. Here is an update on how they got on in the past week.

Europe

Here is where some of the higher profile stars that are seeking paths elsewhere.

Marcus Rashford was left on the bench as Barcelona swept aside Newcastle 7-2 in the Champions League last-16 second leg. He came off the bench as they narrowly overcame Rayo Vallecano. He was unable to have much impact on the game but won a couple of free-kicks as they stay top.

Rasmus Hojlund played the full 90 as Napoli beat Cagliari away on Friday. It moved them second in the table temporarily. He did not show much in the game though with one effort off-target. The match-winner came via Scott McTominay.

Andre Onana’s Trapzonspor side stayed third in the standings as they beat Eyupspor away on Wednesay. He also claimed a rare clean sheet in the 1-0 win.

Lausanne look certain to be involved in the relegation round. It was a disappointing afternoon on Sunday they lost 4-0 to Luzern. Neither Sekou Kone nor Enzo Kana-Biyik saw any action.

Premier League

Jadon Sancho was back in the starting line-up as Aston Villa progressed to the last eight of the Europa League. He set up the opener for John McGinn and had a generally busy display. He also had two efforts himself and created another chance. He also provided an assist for McGinn in their 2-0 home win against West Ham on Sunday.

SPL

Jacob Devaney played most of the game as St. Mirren surprised Falkirk away. He was unable to have a shot on target but his passing stats were an impressive 85%. He also created two opportunities in the game. They remain just outside of the relegation zone at the moment. It is good timing for him as he should be involved for the Republic of Ireland under 21’s on Thursday.

Ethan Williams did not feature for the home side. They have not yet secured a top-six finish.

EFL

Harry Amass remains out injured at Norwich City. He has returned to Old Trafford for checks on his hamstring damage.

Radek Vitek’s Bristol City continue to lose pace on the play-offs as they lost at home to relegation threatened West Brom. A depleted squad is currently lacking the depth and experience to keep up.

Toby Collyer was on the bench for Hull City as they came from behind to defeat Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday. He did not feature though. It keeps them in the play-off picture with automatic promotion a slight possibility.

Ethan Wheatley had a frustrating week for Bradford City. He started up front for them as they drew at home to Mansfield Town. He was subbed off at half-time. Against Burton Albion on Saturday, he came off the bench as they were chasing the game. They ended up losing 2-1 and he received a yellow card.

It was a tough week for Rotherham United. Gabriele Biancheri came off the bench as they were crushed 5-0 away to Peterborough United on Tuesday and then 3-0 away to leaders Lincoln City on Saturday. He was not able to make much of an impact in either game with no efforts on goal. Dan Gore did also come off the bench in the second game. He did provide the cross for their best chance in the game but it was headed wide. They are now under the management of Lee Clark who was appointed during the week.

James Scanlon was not in the matchday squad as Swindon Town won two away games in a week. First away to Gillingham and then at struggling Tranmere Rovers. It means they have regained ground in the promotion race.

Ethan Ennis was missing as Fleetwood lost to play-off chasing Grimsby on Tuesday. He returned against Crawley Town and helped set up the winner for Ched Evans. It is probably too late for them to make the play-offs this season.

It is clear to see that some are performing better than others at the moment.
