Club announces departures
Manchester United has submitted their retained list to the Premier League ahead of the start of the 2026/27 season. It declares the players that are under contract to the club prior to the beginning of the new season.
Those that are out of contract, and have not been offered a new contract, will be leaving the club. This includes both those in the senior team and in the underage structures. Among those departing are Casemiro, Jadon Sancho, and Tyrell Malacia.
Casemiro arrived at the end of the transfer window in 2022 in a deal worth around £70M as the club sought to solve its midfield crisis. The five time Champions League winner was a key part to the side recovering from a poor start. We qualified for the Champions League and won the League Cup at Wembley. He scored a powerful header to set us on the way that afternoon. He also helped advice many of the emerging young players.
He came back despite been written off to be a major part of our success in the season just gone. He might not have had the stamina and energy of before but his commitment and passion was clear for all to see. He contributed a career high of nine goals to boot. Fans were calling for him to sign for one more year for the last few weeks of the season. His age and wages dictated otherwise. He is going to be highly in demand from clubs in Saudi Arabia and America.
Tyrell Malacia arrived in the same transfer window as Casemiro. The young Dutch full-back arrived from Feyenoord in a deal worth around £15M. He was signed as a back-up to Luke Shaw and helped provide competition in a tricky area for the club. He was another who featured in the League Cup win over Newcastle and started on the bench against Manchester City in the FA Cup Final that year.
He underwent surgery on his knee that summer and was out of action for nearly 18 months. He departed on loan to PSV in early 2025, but also struggled for full fitness. He played six Premier League games in the past two seasons the last of which was the final home game this season.
Jadon Sancho arrived from Borussia Dortmund in 2021 for £73M following impressive form in the Budesliga. His form dipped dramatically with us with just five goals and three assists overall. Issues off the pitch saw him take a leave of absence during the following campaign. Performances did not pick up upon his return though.
He was sent out on loan to Dortmund, Chelsea and recently Aston Villa on loan for the last three seasons. Despite each club reaching a European final, he was not signed on a permanent basis.

In addition, academy players Sonny Aljofree, James Bailey, and Malachi Sharpe will also leave the club. We wish them the best in their future careers.
